Activity 2: An interview with a dancer (Arts 10_Module 2)

I had the opportunity to interview Tiffany, who is not only a friend and coworker but also a Sinulog dancer. Initially, her passion was taekwondo, but due to its high costs, she transitioned to dancing. She auditioned to become a Sinulog dancer to represent her school, Guadalupe Elementary School in Cebu City.

Tiffany soon discovered that dancing was her true passion, finding joy in every movement. Her dedication and enthusiasm were evident as she committed to morning and late-night rehearsals to perfect her performance. Along with her schoolmates, she represented Guadalupe Elementary School in the Sinulog Sa Dakbayan competition in 2013. Their hard work paid off, earning them a well-deserved second-place finish.

Below is their full performance held at Cebu City Sports Complex. Credits to SunStar Philippines for the video.

What's your greatest strength as a dancer?
My greatest strength as a dancer is my flexibility, which allows me to execute a wide range of movements with fluidity and precision. I was awarded as the best dancer among 50 participants.

What's your greatest weakness as a dancer?
My greatest weakness as a dancer during my elementary days was having limited practice time due to curfew restrictions.

What have you learned when you joined as Sinulog dancer?
Didto gyud nisugod kabaga akoang nawng nga ni join ko as Sinulog dancer. Mosayaw baya kas daghang tawo, so wala gyuy uwaw-uwaw. Nakat-on sab ko nga mo abot on time, samot na inig practice namo. (Joining as a Sinulog dancer really helped me overcome my shyness. Dancing in front of large crowds leaves no room for embarrassment. I also learned the importance of punctuality, especially during our practices)

What do you like to do when you're not dancing?
Outside of dancing, I find joy in singing, engaging in artistic activities, being outdoors, and discovering new places.

Are you still dancing at this age?
Yes uyy! I still dance and post my videos on TikTok.

Are your tips for those who can't dance?
Keep practicing lang gyud and mohumok ra gyud an inyong lawas.
(Just keep practicing, and your body will eventually become more flexible)
